Danish control at sea is secured at…
July 1678 CE
Danish control at sea is secured at the beginning of July 1678, when the Danish fleet, lead by Niels Juel, again defeats the Swedish fleet at the Battle of Køge bay, near Copenhagen.
The Swedes lose eight warships, several smaller ships and about three thousand men.
The Danish fleet does not lose any ships, only some damage; approximately one hundred Danish fighters are killed and two hundred and seventy-five wounded.
This success at sea, which is perhaps Denmark’s greatest naval victory, hinders Sweden’s ability to move troops between northern Germany and Sweden.
