The architect Racine lends his talents in 1721 to build the bishop’s castle in Delémont, which serves as a “petit Versailles.”
Situated in a wide valley at the confluence of the Sorne and Birse rivers in northwestern Switzerland, and first mentioned in historical records in 727, Delémont had been annexed by the prince-bishops of Basel in the eleventh century for use as a summer residence.
