Marye's final military campaign is against Ras Sabagadis of Agame, who had succeeded Wolde Selassie as the dominant warlord of Tigray.

Supported by Wube Haile Maryam of Semien and Goshu of Gojjam, Marye leads his army across the Takazze River and defeats Sebagadis at the Battle of Debre Abbay on February 14, 1831.

However, Ras Marye is killed in the battle, and Sebagadis surrenders to Wube.
