December 1562 CE
Dutch artist Jan van Scorel, credited with having helped to blend the Mannerism of the Italian Renaissance with northern painting styles, paints a series of notable portraits and religious works that reflect the influence of Michelangelo and Raphael.
Considered to be the leading Netherlandish Romanist, he dies in Utrecht on December 6, 1562, at the age of sixty-seven, leaving behind a wealth of portraits and altarpieces.
Though many of his works will fall victim to the Iconoclasm in 1566, some still remain and can be seen primarily at museums in the Netherlands.
