Emperor Maximilian suspends his edict of November …
Years: 1511 - 1511
Emperor Maximilian suspends his edict of November 10, 1509, on May 23, 1511, and the books are returned to the Jews on June 6.
The ensuing battle of pamphlets between Pfefferkorn and Reuchlin reflects the struggle between the Dominicans and the humanists.
Pfefferkorn, thus informed of Reuchlin's vote, is greatly excited, and answers with Handspiegel (Mainz, 1511), in which he attacks Reuchlin unmercifully.
Reuchlin complains to the Emperor, and answers Pfefferkorn's attack with his Augenspiegel, against which Pfefferkorn publishes his Brandspiegel.
