English social and economic reformer and theorist Sidney Webb establishes the Fabian Society in London 1884.

The Fabians, a group of middle class intellectuals, including Quaker Edward R. Pease, Havelock Ellis, and E. Nesbit, reject revolutionary Marxism, aiming to disseminate socialist ideas among the educated public and ultimately establish a socialist government.
