Exhausted and defeated, Denonville pleads with France…
October 1689 CE
Exhausted and defeated, Denonville pleads with France and successfully returns the surviving Onondaga from the galleys to their land.
The affairs of the colony are now in a critical condition; a man of experience and decision is needed to cope with the difficulties, and Louis XIV makes the sage choice of the choleric Count Frontenac to represent and uphold the power of France.
When, therefore, on October 15, 1689, Frontenac arrives in Quebec as governor for the second time, he receives an enthusiastic welcome, and confidence is at once restored in the public mind.
Quebec is not long to enjoy the blessing of peace.
