The remnants of Lally's forces, now restricted…
January 1761 CE
For some reason Coote had not been entrusted with the siege operations, but loyally supports William Monson, who brings the siege to a successful end on January 15, 1761.
The French general Marquis de Bussy-Castelnau surrenders the French forces on January 16, 1761.
Soon afterwards Coote is given the command of the British East India Company's forces in Bengal, and settles a serious dispute between the new Nawab of Bengal, Mir Qasim, and a powerful subordinate.
