The Fort Belknap Indian Reservation is established…
May 1888 CE
The Blackfoot, Gros Ventre, and Assiniboine tribes cede seventeen million five hundred thousand acres of their joint reservation and agree to live on three smaller reservations.
These are now known as the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Fort Peck Indian Reservation and the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation.
Fort Belknap is named for William W. Belknap, who was Secretary of War at the time of its founding.
