French colonial expansion leads to the creation…
May 1900 CE
French colonial expansion leads to the creation of the Territoire Militaire des Pays et Protectorats du Tchad in 1900.
N'Djamena, today Chad's capital city, is founded as Fort-Lamy by French commander Émile Gentil on May 29 at the confluence of the Logone River with the Chari River, and named after Amédée-François Lamy, an army officer who had been killed in the Battle of Kousséri a few days earlier.
