Fries, due to a mistrial, is subsequently tried a second time and again convicted of treason and sentenced to hang, together with Gettman and Hainey, in Bucks County on May 23, 1800.
President Adams pardons the three men two days before the execution.
He also pardons all of the other men who had been sentenced, and declares a general amnesty for all those who had been involved in the “rebellion”.
