French chemist Henri Moissan produce the first chemically pure molybdenum metal in 1895 by reducing it with carbon in an electric furnace

Bucholtz and Berzelius, German and Swedish chemists, respectively, working independently, had systematically explored the complex chemistry of molybdenum during the nineteenth century, but Moissan's accomplishment opens the way for scientific and metallurgical research into the metal and its alloys.
