Giocchino Rossini, after four years of studying music theory and the cello at the Liceo Mucicale of Bologna, leaves the Liceo in 1810 to pursue his chosen career as a composer of operas.
His first opera to be performed publicly, the one-act comedy La Cambiale di matrimonio (The Bill of Marriage), is given in Venice the same year.
