Guthrum upholds his end of the treaty…
878 CE
Guthrum upholds his end of the treaty and leaves unmolested the boundary that separates the Danelaw from English England.
Although he had failed to conquer Wessex, Guthrum turns towards the lands to the east that the treaty had allotted under his control free of interference by Alfred.
Guthrum withdraws his army from the western borders facing Alfred's territory and moves eastward before eventually settling in the Kingdom of Guthrum in East Anglia in 879, where he will live out the remainder of his life until his death in 890.
