Hetman Żółkiewski, his only other choice mutiny, …
Years: 1610 - 1610
March
Hetman Żółkiewski, his only other choice mutiny, decides to follow the king's orders and leaves Smolensk in 1610, leaving only a smaller force necessary to continue the siege.
With Cossack reinforcements, he marches on Moscow.
However, as he had feared and predicted, as the Polish–Lithuanian forces presses eastwards, ravaging Russian lands, and as Sigismund's lack of willingness to compromise becomes more and more apparent, many supporters of the Poles and of the second False Dmitry leave the pro-Polish camp and turn to Shuiski's anti-Polish faction.
