The state of Georgia cedes to the United States all claim to lands west of its present border, along with the legal disputes, in 1803.
The matter will reach the U.S. Supreme Court in 1810.
In the landmark Fletcher v. Peck decision, one of the first times the Court overturns a state law, the Court will rule that the land sales were binding contracts and cannot be retroactively invalidated by the state by passage of superseding law.
