The isolation of larger quantities of lithium…
1855 CE
The isolation of larger quantities of lithium metal by electrolysis of lithium chloride is achieved by Robert Bunsen and Augustus Matthiessen in 1855.
Bunsen and his laboratory assistant, Peter Desaga, have by 1855 perfected a special gas burner, influenced by an earlier one of Michael Faraday.
The newer design of Bunsen and Desaga is now called simply the "Bunsen burner".
