The activities of the Reformists in Cuba…
1864 CE to 1875 CE
The activities of the Reformists in Cuba soon meet with strong opposition from a group of Peninsulars, who form the Unconditional Spanish Party (Partido Incondicional Español).
Trying to prevent any economic or political change, especially if it affects their interests, the Peninsulars use their newspaper, the Diario de la Marina, to attack the reformers.
They caution that any concessions from Spain could only strengthen the Creoles, weakening continuous Spanish control over Cuba.
