Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec makes the acquaintance of…
December 1884 CE
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec makes the acquaintance of Aristide Bruant, a singer and composer who owns a cabaret in Montmartre called the Mirliton, in 1884.
Impressed by his work, Bruant asks him to prepare illustrations for his songs and offers the Mirliton as a place where Toulouse-Lautrec can exhibit his works.
By this means and through reproductions of his drawings in Bruant's magazine Mirliton, he becomes known in Montmartre and starts to receive commissions.
