1831 CE
The Franco-Polish composer Frédéric Chopin, one of many expatriates of the Polish "Great Emigration" following Poland’s failed November Uprising against Russia, moves to Paris in late September 1831 and expresses his bitter disappointment musically in his Scherzo in B Minor, Op. 20, and his Revolutionary Étude.
Uncertain whether he will settle here for good but with a view to easing his entry into the Parisian musical community, he begins taking lessons from the prominent pianist Friedrich Kalkbrenner.
