1883 CE
The infamous Cacos, a paramilitary group from Haiti's north, rebel against Lysius Salomon and his administration in April 1883, but are crushed by government troops mixed with former militia.
Salomon offers the United States the island of Tortuga in return for U.S. protection in May, and in November offers Môle Saint-Nicolas or Tortuga to the United States, but both offers are rejected.
Within the first four months of Salomon’s presidency, Haitian refugees from Kingston had been in contact with the elite community in Port-au-Prince in order to stage a coup.
When Salomon went to tour the south, general Nicolas had headed to St. Marc to plan another coup, but had been met by government soldiers.
Exiled Haitian rebels from Jamaica and Cuba reach Haitian shores to start another coup against Salomon.
