Sadat is assassinated by members of Al Jihad movement, a group of religious extremists, on October 6, while observing a military parade commemorating the eighth anniversary of the October 1973 War.

Sadat's assassin is Lieutenant Colonel Khalid al Islambuli.

The conspirators are arrested and tried.

In April 1982, two of the conspirators will be shot and three hanged.
