Sholem Asch, an internationally acclaimed Yiddish novelist and dramatist, writes the biblical novel The Prophet in 1955.

Now seventy-five and living in Israel, Asch will spend most of his last two years of his life in Bat Yam, near Tel Aviv, in a house that the mayor had invited him to build.
