Archibald Montgomerie, 13th Earl of Eglinton, is appointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland on March 1, 1852, under the Earl of Derby.

A staunch Tory, he was a whip in the House of Lords in 1846; on May 28, 1846, he spoke against the Corn Importation Bill; in May 1848 he opposed the Jewish Disabilities Bill.
