Israel is boycotted by all its Arab…
November 1951 CE
The Israelis intensively cultivate the land on their side of the border, while the Arabs tend to leave their side barren—hence the phrase "green line," referring to the border between the two sides.
The green lines themselves are difficult to defend; only twelve miles (nineteen kilometers) separate Jordanian army positions from the Mediterranean, and the road connecting Jerusalem with the rest of the Israel is within rifle range of Arab sharpshooters.
Isser Harel in 1951 founds the Mossad—in full Mossad Merkazi Le-modiin U-letafkidim Meyuhadim (Hebrew: "Central Institute for Intelligence and Security").
Mossad, whose director reports directly to Israel's prime minister, is concerned with espionage, intelligence gathering, and covert political operations in foreign countries.
