Jan Willems and William Wright sail together…
September 1681 CE
Jan Willems and William Wright sail together from Bocas del Toro in September 1681.
Although Willems does not have a commission himself, he captures a Spanish merchantman with a cargo of sugar and tobacco while sailing with Wright south along the coast of Colombia.
Taking the Spanish prize as his own, he gives his old barque to Wright, who burns his own ship.
They attempt to sell the Spanish cargo at Curaçao but are forced to leave by the governor.
He and Wright then sail to the Isla Aves and Islas Roques.
