Upon hearing that Rizal had been deported to Dapitan, Liga member Andrés Bonifacio and his fellows established a secret organization named Katipunan in a house located in Tondo, Manila
The Katipunan attract an overwhelming number of members, many from the the lowest classes.
In June 1896, Bonifacio had sent an emissary to Dapitan to obtain Rizal's support, but Rizal had refused to participate in an armed revolution.
On August 19, 1896, Katipunan's discovery by a Spanish friar results in revolution, initially flaring up in the eight provinces of Central Luzon.
