1400 CE
Kongo, an African kingdom located in west central Africa in what are now northern Angola, Cabinda, Republic of the Congo, and the western portion of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is established when Nimi a Lukeni conquers the kingdom of the Mwene Kabunga (or Mwene Mpangala), which lies upon a mountain to his south, in approximately 1400.
He transfers his rule to this mountain, the Mongo dia Kongo or "mountain of Kongo" and makes Mbanza Kongo, the town here, his capital.
