...Lancaster. The famous captive story of Mary…
February 1676 CE
...Lancaster.
The famous captive story of Mary Rowlandson, captured in Lancaster, Massachusetts, with her three children, gives a Colonial captive's perspective on the war.
Abducted by the Nipmucs in February, Rowlandson is to endure eleven weeks of captivity before being ransomed, forced to accompany the natives in their flight through the wilderness to elude the colonial militia, during which times she witnesses the murder of friends and the death of her youngest child Sarah, and suffers starvation and depression, until she is finally reunited with her husband.
She will later recount how severe the conditions during her time of captivity were for all parties.
