November 1864 CE
Lincoln is reelected President on November 8, with Andrew Johnson, military governor of Tennessee and perhaps the most prominent southerner supporting the Union, as Vice-President, winning 55 percent of the popular vote and 212 electoral votes.
His Democrat opponent, George B. McClellan, who had served briefly (November 1861 to March 1862) as the general-in-chief of the Union Army, receives 45% of the popular vote, but only 21 electoral votes.
The 81 electoral votes unaccounted for belong to Southern states still outside the Union.
