Francisco Solano López, at last driven with a handful of troops to the northern frontier forests of Paraguay, arrives at Cerro Corá on February 14, 1870.
He is accompanied by his personal guard of from one hundred to two hundred and fifty soldiers.
Also present are a group of women, led by Lopez's mistress Eliza Lynch.
This group, called "Las Residentas", is composed of the sodiers' wives, daughters, and others who support them.
