Luis de Velasco, the second Viceroy of New Spain, issues a charter to the town of San Miguel el Grande (now San Miguel de Allende), an important stopover on the Antiguo Camino Real, part of the silver route from Zacatecas.
In the same region are established the towns of San Felipe de Ixtlahuaca and Nombre de Dios.
The Viceroy has also instituted public services such as hospitals and law enforcement for the natives.
