Madame Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, aiming to transmit Eastern thought to the West, founds the Theosophical Society in New York in November, 1875, with the motto, "There is no Religion higher than Truth".
Its other principal founding members include Henry Steel Olcott (1832–1907), and William Quan Judge (1851–1896).
Its initial objective is the study and elucidation of Occultism, the Cabala, etc.
