The British in Belize treat the Garifuna…
1852 CE to 1863 CE
The British in Belize treat the Garifuna as squatters.
In 1857 the British tell the Garifuna that they must obtain leases from the crown or risk losing their lands, dwellings, and other buildings.
The 1872 Crown Lands Ordinance will establish reservations for the Garifuna as well as the Maya.
The British prevent both groups from owning land and treat them as a source of valuable labor.
