Felix Mendelssohn, having revived the music of Johann Sebastian Bach after a century of neglect, has also revived interest in the work of Schubert.
Schumann, having discovered the manuscript of Schubert's Ninth Symphony, had sent it to Mendelssohn, who promptly premiers it in Leipzig on March 21, 1839, more than a decade after the composer's death.
