Nasser desires vehemently to change his country;…
1952 CE
Nasser and the other Free Officers had had no particular desire for a military career, but Nasser had perceived that military life offered upward mobility and a chance to participate in shaping the country's future.
The Free Officers are united by their desire to see Egypt freed of British control and a more equitable government established.
Nasser and many of the others seem to be attached to no particular political ideology, although some, such as Khalid Muhi ad Din, are Marxists and a few sympathize with the Muslim Brotherhood.
The lack of a coherent ideology will cause difficulties in the future when these men set about the task of governing Egypt.
