Based upon the experience of earlier failed trials, Howard and Dennison will eventually perfect and patented their precision watch making machines, creating what has been called the American system of watch manufacturing.
Dennison, a watch repairman, is the only person with knowledge of watchmaking.
By around 1845, Dennison had decided to adopt the use of interchangeable parts, rather than crafting every watch by hand.
