The Palestinian movement suffers a severe blow…
April 1973 CE
The Palestinian movement suffers a severe blow when Israeli Commando leader Barak, dressed in women's clothing, sneaks into Lebanon in a rubber dinghy on April 10, 1973, and plants explosives that kill three Palestinian leaders responsible for the deadly terrorist attack on Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.
Following the attack, the Lebanese army assaults guerrilla bases and refugee camps throughout the country.
An agreement is reached requiring the Palestinians to limit their activities to border areas near Israel and refugee camps near urban centers.
Yasser Arafat, who becomes head of the PLO's political department, subsequently directs his efforts increasingly toward political persuasion rather than confrontation and terrorism against Israel.
