April 1863 CE
Mirza Husayn Ali, an Iranian religious leader, leaves Baghdad and enters the nearby Garden of Ridván on April 22, 1863.
He and those accompanying him stay in the garden for twelve days before departing for Constantinople.
It is during his time in the Garden of Ridván that Mirza Husayn Ali declares to his companions his perceived mission and station as a Messenger of God.
Proclaiming himself to be the person announced by the Bab who would complete his work, he assumes the title Bahá'u'lláh (“Glory to God”).
His teachings—oneness of God, of religion, and of humankind—become the central tenets of the Baha’i faith.
