July 1871 CE
David Livingstone witnesses the massacre of around four hundred Africans by slavers, on July 15, 1871, while he is visiting the town of Nyangwe on the banks of the Lualaba River, according to his recently released original handwritten diaries.
The massacre horrifies Livingstone, leaving him too shattered to continue his mission to find the source of the Nile.
