637 CE
Oswald sends Northumbrian troops to Ireland to assist Domnall II, the Gaelic High King of Ireland, in his struggle with his foster son King Congal of Ulster, supported by his ally Domnall the Freckled (Domnall Brecc) of Dalriada during the Irish dynastic wars.
Congal is killed and and his forces defeated near Moira in what is allegedly the largest battle ever fought on the island of Ireland.
