Continued acquisition of land—largely via purchases by the Jewish National Fund—and the dedication in 1925 of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem—are additional landmark developments by the World Zionist Organization under the Mandate.

Lord Balfour officially opens the university on April 1 on Mount Scopus; its first Chancellor is Dr. Judah Magnes.

The idea for the university had originally been proposed by Herman Schapira in the Kattowitz Conference of 1884.

Chaim Weizmann serves as chairman of the board.
