Georges Seurat, as if from some sort…
1891 CE
The popular imagery of the painting is expressed in sinuous rhythms not far from a new decorative style that begins to coalesce in Brussels, characterized by long sinuous lines derived from naturalistic forms.
As an organizer of the exhibition, Seurat exhausts himself in the presentation and hanging of the works.
He catches a chill, develops infectious angina, and, before the exhibition is ended, he dies on March 29, 1891.
On the following day, Madeleine presents herself at the town hall of her district to identify herself as the mother of Pierre-Georges Seurat.
Seurat is buried in the family vault at Père Lachaise cemetery.
In addition to his seven monumental paintings, he leaves forty smaller paintings and sketches, about five hundred drawings, and several sketchbooks.
The child, who had contracted his father's contagious illness, dies on April 13.
