In Moulin de la Galette, Picasso pays tribute to French artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec and T. A. Steinlen (the Norman Rockwell of the 1890's, whose most famous image is a poster for the very popular "Chat Noir" cabaret in Montmartre) as well as his Catalan compatriot Ramon Casas.
