Radu Leon, ruler of Wallachia from 1664…
March 1665 CE
Radu Leon, ruler of Wallachia from 1664 to 1669 with the byname Radu the Oyster-seller, is the son of Wallachian ruler Leon Tomşa, and putative grandson of Ştefan Tomşa, ruler of Moldavia.
Radu Leon, supposedly barely able to speak Romanian, had in December 1664 replaced the deposed Grigore I Ghica.
His authority relies on the support of the Phanariotes, and especially the Cantacuzino family.
Şerban Cantacuzino, future ruler of Wallachia, serves as his chamberlain, and Draghici Cantacuzino commands Radu's armies.
Bucharest from March 16, 1665, allows Jews to settle in the city in exchange for an annual tax of sixteen guilders.
