The captain of the trading ship Jenny has asked Vancouver to return two kidnapped girls to Hawaiʻi.

Thus enlarged, the expedition moves south; Whidbey in Daedalus surveying Grays Harbor while the other two ships dare the bar of the Columbia River.

The smaller Chatham makes it over the bar and sends small boats upriver.
