Florvil Hyppolite's Haitian presidency (1889-96) is the final exception to the short-lived Haitian presidencies of the late 1800s.
Hyppolite is remembered for his Ministry of Public Works, which builds bridges, docks, iron markets, and public buildings throughout Haiti and installs telephone and telegraph lines.
After Hyppolite, Haitian politics become even more unstable and the governments particularly short-lived.
This will be the case until the United States occupation in 1915.
