The seventeen-ship Paraguay expedition had gotten underway…
January 1859 CE
Upon reaching Rosario, Water Witch and Fulton had left their companions behind and continued on to Asunción with Shubrick ans Commissioner James B. Bowlin.
They arrive off Asunción on January 25.
Bowlin goes ashore to conduct negotiations with Paraguayan President Carlos Antonio López that will be completed in a fortnight.
As a result of the expedition, Paraguay will extend an apology to the U.S., indemnify the family of the slain Water Witch crewman, and grant the U.S. a new and highly-advantageous commercial treaty.
