The Iloilo area of the Philippines had begun to prosper, due to its successful textile and sugar industry.

As a result, it has received Chinese immigrants from the west (that worke for its trades) and Latinos from the ports of Mexico in the east (to man its military installations).

Over time, Iloilo will grow to be the most important province outside Manila.

Iloilo is opened to world trade, by Queen Isabella II of Spain, on September 29, 1855.
