The poetry of the late Irish poet…
1722 CE
Among his best poems are “An Elegy to an Old Beauty” and “Night Piece on Death,” which will be said to have influenced Thomas Gray's “An Elegy Written in a Country Church Yard.”
Parnell had contributed to The Spectator and the Guardian and was a member, with Jonathan Swift and John Gay, of the literary Scriblerus Club
Alexander Pope, having collected Parnell's poetry after his death in 1718, publishes it in a volume called Poems on Several Occasions in 1722.
